One of the most common questions parents search before booking a photoshoot is how long a family photoshoot actually takes. The answer varies depending on the photographer and the style of session. Some family sessions can last an hour or more, but shorter sessions are often ideal when young children are involved. A well organised photographer can capture a wide variety of images without needing a long session.

How long are studio family photoshoots?
Studio family photoshoots are usually shorter than outdoor sessions. In a studio environment everything is already set up, which means the session can move quickly and smoothly. Lighting, backgrounds and space are controlled, allowing the photographer to focus entirely on capturing great expressions and natural moments.
At Isabella Fleur Photography, family studio sessions take place in my studio in Woldingham, Surrey and last around 25 minutes. This length works really well for families with young children because it keeps the experience relaxed and enjoyable rather than tiring.

Is 25 minutes long enough for a family photoshoot?
Many parents worry that 25 minutes will not be enough time for a photoshoot. In reality, when a photographer is experienced with children, it is more than enough time to capture a full set of images.
With six years of experience photographing families, I know how to move quickly through a variety of portraits while keeping children engaged. During a typical 25 minute session I capture individual portraits of each child, sibling photographs, and whole family portraits.
Shorter sessions also help children stay interested and happy, which usually results in much more natural smiles. If you would like a longer session however, I am always happy to run a custom package. Just get in touch to arrange this.
Do family photoshoots take longer with newborns?
Newborn photography sessions are usually longer than standard family photoshoots. Babies often need feeding, settling and time to feel comfortable, which means sessions move at a slower pace.
For families with newborns, I also offer longer studio sessions lasting around 60 to 90 minutes. This allows plenty of time for feeding breaks, soothing the baby and capturing a relaxed mix of newborn and family photographs without feeling rushed.
These longer sessions are designed to keep the experience calm and comfortable for both parents and baby.

How many photos do you get from a family photoshoot?
The number of photos you receive from a family photoshoot depends on the package you book. Some photographers provide a small set of edited images, while others offer larger galleries.
My family studio sessions in Surrey include 10 professionally edited digital images. These are carefully selected and edited to create a collection of beautiful family photographs you can keep and print.

Why are family photoshoots often short?
Parents are often surprised that family photoshoots are intentionally kept short. This is especially true when photographing babies, toddlers and young children.
Children rarely enjoy long sessions, and their attention can quickly fade. Shorter photoshoots help keep the atmosphere fun and relaxed. When children are happy and comfortable, their expressions are much more natural and the photographs feel genuine rather than forced.
A 25 minute session is usually the perfect balance between capturing a great range of images and keeping little ones engaged.
