If you’ve been thinking about getting some updated family photos but aren’t quite sure where to start — this one’s for you. Whether it’s been years since your last shoot, or you just want something a bit more polished (and less “taken on someone’s phone at Christmas”), a professional family photoshoot is one of those things you’ll never regret doing.
Here’s everything you need to know before booking your family photoshoot in Surrey.

💡 Why Book a Studio Family Photoshoot?
Studio shoots are perfect for families who want something timeless, simple and stress-free. No worrying about the weather, muddy shoes, or little ones being cold - just a calm, comfortable space where everyone can relax.
My studio near Caterham in Surrey is set up to make it easy — there’s plenty of room for little ones to move around, comfy seating for parents, easy parking right outside and I keep the vibe light and fun (because stiff smiles are not our thing).

👕 What to Wear
Keep it simple. Soft, neutral tones photograph beautifully — think creams, light browns, denim and earthy shades. You don’t all need to match exactly, but coordinating with a loose colour scheme helps group photos feel cohesive.
If you’re unsure, you’re always welcome to bring a few outfit options. I’ll help you choose what works best on camera.

🧒 Bringing the Kids
Worried about how your little ones will go? Totally normal — every family’s different, which is why I offer two session lengths: 30 minutes or 60 minutes. The shorter sessions are perfect if you’ve got younger kids with shorter attention spans, while the full hour gives us a bit more time to settle in, play around, and capture those in-between moments, ideal for larger groups or families with a newborn who might need to stop for feeds etc.
I always plan the shoot around your family — if your kids are shy, we take things slow; if they’re full of energy, we roll with it. The best photos usually happen when everyone’s just being themselves anyway.

🕓 When to Book
Family shoots can be done any time of year, but weekends and school holidays do book up quickly — especially in Surrey! If you’re thinking about a session soon, I’d recommend getting your spot locked in early. Click here to view my availability!
