3 Steps To Prepare For a Photoshoot at Home

3 Steps To Prepare For a Photoshoot at Home

Step One - Let's get it in the diary!

Okay, so this one might sound a little obvious, but the first thing you want to do is get your photoshoot booked in! Working with a photographer with a strong portfolio of work is key. Perhaps you want moody, atmospheric images, or maybe something totally abstract. Whatever you are after, finding a photographer whose work matches your own vision is key. You can check out my gallery of home shoot photography here.

Once you have picked a photographer to work with, decide on a time slot which isn't going to interfere with naps, work calls or be a stress. Give yourself time to do your lip gloss and plump the cushions before they arrive. There is nothing worse than being in a rush.

Step 2 - Decide On What to Wear

Okay, so what to wear is a question that I get asked a lot! Coordinate with the colours in your home for this one. I'm not saying, wear all red because you have a red sofa, but instead think about what sort of patterns and colours would work well with your surroundings and decor. You can even have quick outfit change half way through, but make sure to ask your photographer if this is okay first, especially if you have booked a shorter shoot or even a mini session as there might not be time.

Everyone doesn't need to be identically matching, but there should be a loose colour scheme between family members. (Mum tip: pick something you feel great in to start and begin matching the rest of the group from there). Pinterest and Instagram are your best friends for inspiration on this one. You can also check out what other families have worn on photoshoots with me on my Instagram, by clicking here.

AND I BEG - No Minecraft/Spiderman/Pawpatrol clothing! Go for something classic which you will still like in 10 years time!

Step Three - Have a Tidy Up

Have a tidy up, but don't stress out over perfection! Focus on clearing the surfaces and tidying over doing a deep clean. The camera isn't going to pick up on dust behind the sofa. Focus on the rooms with good natural light and the living room, master bedroom and nursery. Forget about the bathroom. One of the main benefits of a home shoot is the ease of being in your own space. And let's be honest, if you've just given birth or have little ones, cleaning the whole house isn't top of the priority list. If you can't be bothered or don't have space, borrow your parents or a friends home for the shoot. I always bring with studio lighting to brighten up even the darkest of houses.

My home shoots cost £125 for a 1 hour shoot and includes 50 images and travel within 1 hour of CR3. If you would like to book in with me, please get in contact or click here to find out more about my home shoots.
